If you've browsed our website and explored our products, you may have noticed that we currently collaborate with just two producers: Oscar and Doña Maria Cristina.
Oscar, as mentioned in our "About Us" section, is not only a co-owner of La Clara Coffee but also a former university classmate of Jose. This encapsulates our business model succinctly. We take immense pride in representing our culture through a familial coffee connection. For Oscar and Doña Maria Cristina, it's about sharing the produce of his land and family with the world. For Jose, it's a matter of showcasing the produce of his homeland, his friend's labor, and offering a window into our culture through the lens of coffee.
Our growth may be slow, but it's aligned with our core values. We strive to provide producers with the best opportunity to market their coffee. We want hardworking producers, unfamiliar with accessing this market, to see in us a chance. We aim to consistently purchase their produce and gradually increase the prices we pay for their coffee whenever possible. As we have mentioned several times in our posts, fair pay is the first step in our relationship with the producers.
It takes years for a coffee tree to yield a significant volume of cherries. It's a long-term investment, often underappreciated in the industry. We know, and have experienced this ourselves. That is why we need to keep challenging this kind of industry norms. We want to be fair, and be there.
Our relationship with our producers hinges on commitment. We don't seek one-off purchases; we aim to buy their coffee every season, fostering mutual growth. Our objective is steadfastness and reliability, not just for our producers but also for you, our customer, our friend in coffee.
On that note, one difficult aspect of the relationship producer – consumer, is that we are, as a roastery, in the middle between you two. Ideally, we'd seamlessly relay messages between producers and consumers. You're eager to learn about farm life, and producers are keen on hearing about your experiences. This interconnectedness underscores our belief in mutual support and growth.
