from our family to our friends
Coffee in Colombia is an industry that supports the livelihood of thousands of people. It has been almost 100 years since the foundation of “La Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia” (1927), and the industry together with farmers has gone through both very good and tough times. However, the constant has always been quality, making “100% Colombian Coffee” a household name.
Throughout the difficult times of the drug-traffic era in the 90’s, coffee was the product that represented Colombians on an international level. It was what made me proud of being Colombian during my childhood growing up on a farm. Coffee is written in my blood, my culture “paisa” and its “arrieros” (carriers); coffee talks like me “paisa” (traditional accent of the coffee region in the center-west of Colombia), and grows in the mountains where I spent my youth contemplating.
Hacienda La Clara, was located around eight hours drive (back then, when there were no highways and paved roads) from Medellín. We were isolated from other towns, allowing us to fully connect with the farm and its products - which of course included coffee!. The main house was found deep in the valley, surrounded by mountains. From the jungle on top of those mountains the howler monkeys could be heard every morning.
Our heritage
To our friends in Sweden.
La Clara wants to bring our friends (coffee drinkers) that experience. The morning’s fresh air from the mountains, the jasmine/anise aromas from the coffee tree when flowering, the juice from ripe fruits, the warmth of our people, and amazing landscapes. All in one cup of coffee!
La Clara wants to include the coffee growers in the improvement of the coffee industry. We all learn from each other and want to preserve the coffee farming tradition, aiming to improve all the processes that lead to a more sustainable industry chain.
From the coffee grower, our family and heritage, to our friends in Sweden. We find the right roast for each bean.
